Ben Saren

Biography In short, I'm a Marketing executive and behaved citizen by day, an unruly insomniac by night. A dash of mania, a sprinkle of wonder, combined with a heaping tablespoon of impulsiveness. Unwilling to follow the masses, longing for truth and meaning, having some fun along the way. You can also find me at my blog.

I grew up with a father who lugged his camera everywhere we went. In the 60′s, he was an award-winning photographer for the United States Marine Corp. When I was a kid, he showed me how to work in the dark room, although I admittedly never really took much of an interest in it until much more recently. My dad taught me lots about photography; ISO, f/stops, shutter speeds - the basics, but a lot trickier back in the pre-digital days. Lots of those things were hard concepts for me to understand, so he worked hard to get me there in very practical ways - he’d show me how it worked and have me copy it. I think he enjoyed teaching me more than I enjoyed learning, but I eventually took to it. My father also taught me about the basics of composition and post production.

Today, much later in life, when I’m shooting for pleasure or on a gig, I try to apply a my own perspective, one that captures what I see in the moment and in the subject. I focus on composition more than technicalities. On all my shoots I can hear my father’s voice in my head asking me to double check my exposure, and for the right composition. The combined result is what you get here on my portfolio and in my private collection. I hope you enjoy.
